Ansley. Cricket Supper

The annual supper of the Village Cricket Club was held on Saturday, Mr. Pearson presiding. Mr. Mander read the report, which stated that there was an adverse balance; but when they considered that something like £20 had been paid for laying out the ground, they need not be surprised. The presentations for excellence in play were made as under: - Mr. F Hardy, a bat, given by Mr. Huish, for batting; Mr. T. Terry, a bat, for bowling average. The money prizes for second averages in both cases were given by Mr. Pearson. Similar prizes are to be given for the ensuing season. A musical entertainment followed.

Ansley won the toss and took the field first. Subjoined are the scores: -

Chilvers Coton v Ansley Village

This was a match in the first round of the Coventry and District Junior Cup, and was played at Coton, on Saturday, in the presence of a fair number of spectators. The result was a victory for the home side by 51 runs, owing to the splendid batting and bowling of W. Lambourne, and the trundling of W. Holmes. The first named made 37 runs, and secured four wickets for 11 runs; and Holmes had six for 11. Sheffield made 11 runs, and the final was: - Coton 76, Ansley 25. A correspondent says – “The 37 runs scored by W. Lambourne look promising for the medal offered by the Association, as also does the bowling of Holmes.”
