Ansley Village 1897
Sat 1st May 1897
Bulkington v Ansley Village
Bulkington opened their season in a match at home with Ansley Village. The margin separating the teams at the close was but three runs, but it was in Bulkington’s favor (sic). Most every man on the home side scored, and Walter Swinnerton, the well-known footballer, contributed the highest individual effort, 6 (not out). It goes without saying that the bowling, on both sides, had some sting about it.

Sat 28th August 1897
Bedworth Town v Ansley Village
On the Bedworth enclosure, on Saturday afternoon. Ansley brought with them the bowler, J. Billingham, but this did not win the match. Thanks to the splendid trundling of W. Hall – 8 wickets for a few runs – Ansley were dismissed for 30, including 8 by F. Hart; 7 by H. Chambers, and a like number from Mr. “Extras.” Only a couple of the Bedworth batsmen failed to score – Alfred Sexton and Walton. The veteran, J. Martin, scored an invaluable 19, “Bob” Roberts made 8, and Police Constable Jennings 5. Eleven extras brought the Bedworth total up to 57, and thus the march to victory – if not so glorious as that of Lord Roberts – goes on.
