Nuneaton Observer 26-6-1896
Sat 4th July 1896
Ansley Village v Bedworth
A journey to Ansley was the lot of the Bedworth cricketers, on Saturday. The home team was the second band that disport themselves in the village of Ansley – not the Victorias, but the other club. Bedworth were dismissed for little more than twenty runs. What must have been the feelings of the Ansley eleven, at such an achievement! The homesters’ response was good – at the outset! The first pair of batsmen put together more than half the number of runs necessary for victory. Then one after the other, “like leaves in the autumn,” the Ansley wickets fell. Young Hall bowled like the trundler that he is, and to his credit eight wickets were placed for less than a dozen runs. Amid a scene of indescribable excitement Bedworth won by one run.
