Ansley Victoria v Ansley Village

Ansley v. Ansley! On Saturday, the village of Ansley was divided against itself; for the "Vics" were playing the Village XI. Going in first, the "Vics" made 38, including 13 by John Phillips. The other side responded with 30, the highest item being contributed by that gentleman bearing the title "Mr. Extras." In bowling, Jones and Phillips, on the winning side; and Billingham (6 wickets, cleaned bowled), on the other, were the chief performers.

The Rev. C. Heaton was one of the players.

Ansley Village v Bedworth

A journey to Ansley was the lot of the Bedworth cricketers, on Saturday. The home team was the second band that disport themselves in the village of Ansley – not the Victorias, but the other club. Bedworth were dismissed for little more than twenty runs. What must have been the feelings of the Ansley eleven, at such an achievement! The homesters’ response was good – at the outset! The first pair of batsmen put together more than half the number of runs necessary for victory. Then one after the other, “like leaves in the autumn,” the Ansley wickets fell. Young Hall bowled like the trundler that he is, and to his credit eight wickets were placed for less than a dozen runs. Amid a scene of indescribable excitement Bedworth won by one run.
