Joseph Herbert was captain in 4 of these matches, probably the 1910 games as the official captain, Goodwin, was not playing in these games.

Ansley Victoria

In 1899 Ansley Victoria, who played their matches on the Park adjacent to Ansley Hall, were captained by J H Phillips. If this is Joseph Herbert then he would have been 18, which seems young to be captain, but he was the son of William Garside Phillips, boss of Ansley Hall Coal and Iron Company, and president of the club, which may have had some influence. W G Phillips was the great-grandfather of Captain Mark Phillips.

J H Phillips finished 2nd in the batting averages and 1st in the bowling.
