Ansley v Dosthill

The above match was played at Dosthill on Saturday last, and resulted in a draw greatly in favour of the visitors, who scored 98 for the loss of two wickets, and the home team scoring 51 for eight wickets. The Dosthill attack failed against the excellent batting of J H Phillips and John Cocks, the former scoring 50 before he fell to a well-judged catch in the outfield. Scores as follows:-

Nuneaton v A District XI

Played on the Weddington Road ground, Nuneaton, on Saturday, for the benefit of the Nuneaton groundsman, W. Lambourne. The district eleven was a strong one, composed of Ansley, Chapel End and Coton players. They were the first to bat, The Rev. C. Heaton (Vicar of Ansley) and Browning opening to the bowling of W. Hall and J. Cocks. Mr Heaton was out with the total at 28, towards which his share was 18. Browning and Phillips carried the score to 70 before the latter was bowled by Matterface. With the score 93, for five wickets, the innings was declared closed. The most successful of the Nuneaton bowlers was Matterface, who had two wickets for seven runs. Brownings 41 included 31 singles. The home side failed completely against the bowling of J. H. Phillips and T. Hall, and narrowly escaped defeat. Phillips’s five wickets were obtained at a cost of 11 runs, and Hall’s four cost a like number. Score:-
