Ansley v Freasley

Under the auspices of the Tamworth and District League, this match was played at Ansley, on Saturday last. Ansley opened rather badly, but when Armstrong and Bailey got together the bowling was mastered, and nearly a hundred runs were added before a separation took place. Armstrong's innings was a brilliant affair, and was loudly applauded. Jeffcote, for Freasley, played well; and the bowling of Greenough (4 for 5), and James Phillips was very good and did much towards the success of Ansley. Score:-

Ansley v Wilnecote

This match at Ansley was very interesting. Wilnecote after losing 4 men for about 13 runs played up well, Williamson, Knight and Dooley again stopping the rot. Birkin was without doubt unplayable, taking 9 wickets for 9 runs. Darlow also bowled well. Birkin performed the hat trick with the last three balls. Score:-

This match was played at Tamworth on Wednesday afternoon before a small number of spectators. The ground was more in favour of the bowlers than the batsmen, but the visitors put together a fair score before being dismissed.. Their first wicket fell before the score had been opened, but the partnership of Hill and Graham put on 65. From this point the scoring was slow, the only man to get into double figures being Collins, who compiled 11, the innings closing for 121 (sic). The league team had an hour-and-a-halfs time, but they were all dismissed before stumps were drawn. Six wickets had fallen before the score reached 20, but Knowles put some life into the game by scoring 17 in four hits, one being a fine drive out of the ground. Nugent was the only player who got double figures and four failed to score. For the Club Whitehead had a capital analysis, taking 7 wickets for 22 runs, Hill securing the remainder for 26.
