Nuneaton Chronicle 29-4-1898 reported they were due to play.

Sat 7th May 1898

Ansley Victoria v Freasley

Played at Ansley – These teams had a field day on Saturday. A correspondent says great credit is due to the home team for the way in which they acquitted themselves, the fielding being excellent. The Vics. have lost a few old members, but, notwithstanding this, they appear to be in better form than ever.

Ansley Victoria v Attleboro Y.M.A.

These two teams met at Ansley to play for the first round of the Liggins’ Charity Cup. Both teams were strongly represented, and a very good match was the result, which ended by Attleboro winning a good game. For the visitors, T. Knight gave a splendid piece of batting, scoring 28 runs; and also, worthy of note, was the fine bowling by D. Payne. Below are the scores: -

Nuneaton Mutuals v Ansley . – (Coventry Cup First Round.)

Played on the Mutual Ground, on Saturday last. The home team won the toss, and went in to bat, but made a very poor show against the bowling of Ansley, all being got rid of for the poor score of 40, A. Brownson 11, not out, being top scorer. The Rev. C. Heaton and I. Jones made a good stand for the first Ansley wicket, it falling at 26, and both being missed early on. The Mutual fielding was very poor. Score:

Mutual C.C. v Ansley Victoria

On July 2nd, the Victorias from Ansley were on the Mutual ground and defeated the home team, the scores being 54 for 8 for the visitors and Mutual 40. The return match was played in Ansley Hall Park on Saturday last, the home team taking the batting to the bowling of Childs and Brownson. Childs with his second ball soon started to show that he was in form. The home batsmen could not do anything with the Mutuals' bowling and fielding, all being out for 16, Childs taking 6 wickets for 7 runs and Brownson 4 for 8. The Mutual started batting with Wright and Brownson to the bowling of Jones and Hall, five of the Mutual wickets falling for 14. Bacon and Andrews put a different complexion on the game, taking the score from 14 to 63, Andrews retiring with a grand 24. Bacon left at the same total for 22, the innings closed for 75. The Mutual fielding was at its best, two or three good catches being made. Scores: -

Ansley Victoria Cricket Club

Members and friends of the above club assembled on Saturday evening for their annual meeting and supper. An excellent repast was placed upon the table and thoroughly enjoyed. After supper the toast of “The Queen” was proposed by Mr. W. G. Phillips, who presided. This was followed by a speech from the same gentleman, who read the balance sheet for the past season, and, in reviewing the career of the club, congratulated the members on its financial position, showing a balance on the right side. Commenting on their prospects for the coming season, he wished them every success and promised a further improvement of the ground. He concluded by presenting the prize bat to Mr. H. King for willow-wielding, and a pair of leg-guards to Mr. J. Jones. The Rev. C. Heaton followed, “wishing that the club might have many enjoyable matches and be united and prosperous.” A musical programme was given as follows: - Pianoforte solo, Mr Greenough; song, “They all love Jack,” Mr. Greenough; song, Mr. Barber; song, “Jack’s come home,” Mr W. G. Phillips; recitation, Mr. W. Hamilton; song, “Monte Carlo,” Mr. W. Parkes; song, “Nancy Lee,” Mr. J. Barber; song, “Tom Bowling,” Mr G. Cox; song, “The Bell Rock,” Mr. T. Sage; song, “Always look on the sunny side,” Mr W. G. Phillips; recitation, “The Lifeboat,” Mr. W. Hamilton; song, “The Irish soldier,” Mr. Bowler. One of the most pleasing features of the entertainment was the fine rendering of the recitations by Mr. W. Hamilton, who was most heartily applauded. A vote of thanks was passed to the Chairman.
